This is a Hard rated crochet pattern.

Tools and Materials: 

  • Size H/5mm crochet hook

  • Yarn needle

  • Stuffing

  • 12mm safety eyes

  • ILoveThisYarn Brown (<1 skein)

  • ILoveThisYarn Black (<1 skein)

Final Size: 

About 5” tall by 2 ½” wide


Technical Notes and Gauge:

  1. Crochet in continuous spiral rounds, unless specified otherwise. Use a stitch marker or piece of yarn to keep track of the last stitch in each round.

  2. When filling with polyester stuffing, pull apart each large chunk into many smaller chunks. This ensures an even distribution of firmness within the amigurumi.

  3. I am using ILoveThisYarn, but you can use any worsted, medium weight yarn.




Body: (in ILoveThisYarn Brown)

  • R1: sc6 in MR (6 sts)

  • R2: inc x6 (12 sts)

  • R3: (sc, inc) x6 (18 sts)

  • R4: (sc2, inc) x6 (24 sts)

  • R5: (sc3, inc) x6 (30 sts)

  • R6: (sc4, inc) x6 (36 sts)

  • R7-11: sc36 (36 sts)

  • R12: (sc4, dec) x6 (30 sts)

  • R13: (sc3, dec) x6 (24 sts)

  • R14: (sc2, dec) x6 (18 sts)

  • R15: (sc, dec) x6 (12 sts)

  • R16: sc12 (12 sts)

Add safety eyes between the 9th and 10th row, spacing the eyes 5 sts apart. Stuff the head, but do not cut the yarn. Continue crocheting the body off of the head.

  • R17: (sc, inc) x6 (18 sts)

  • R18: (sc2, inc) x6 (24 sts)

  • R19-25: sc24 (24 sts)

  • R26: (sc2, dec) x6 (18 sts)

  • R27: (sc, dec) x6 (12 sts)

  • R28: dec x6 (6 sts)

Cut yarn, leaving a short tail. Using a needle, thread the yarn through all 6 stitches in the last round, and pull it tight so the opening closes like a drawstring bag. Finish off by tying the yarn and threading the yarn through the body to tuck it away.

Ears: (in ILoveThisYarn Brown) x2

Cut yarn long for sewing onto the head.

Nose: (in ILoveThisYarn Brown)

  • R1: sc6 in MR (6 sts)

  • R2: inc x6 (12 sts)

  • R3-4: sc12 (12 sts)

  • Slst into the first st

Cut yarn long for sewing onto the face.

Arms: (in ILoveThisYarn Brown) x2

  • R1: sc6 in MR (6 sts)

  • R2: (sc, inc) x3 (9 sts)

  • R3: sc9 (9 sts)

  • R4: (sc, dec) x3 (6 sts)

  • R5-7: sc6 (6 sts)

  • R8: slst in the first st

Cut yarn long for sewing onto the body.

Legs: (in ILoveThisYarn Brown) x2

  • R1: sc6 in MR (6 sts)

  • R2: sc3, inc3 (9 sts)

  • R3: sc5, inc2, sc2 (11 sts)

  • R4: sc11 (11 sts)

  • R5: sc5, dec2, sc2 (9 sts)

Stuff the foot.

  • R7-8: sc6 (6 sts)

Cut yarn long for sewing onto the body.

Tail: (in ILoveThisYarn Brown)

  1. Ch 4

  2. Skip first st, sc3

Cut yarn long for sewing onto the body.


Monocle: (in ILoveThisYarn Sungold)

  1. Ch16

  2. Slst into first st of the chain (it should make a circle)

  3. Ch10

Cut yarn long for sewing onto the nose and head.


Book cover: (in ILoveThisYarn Royal)

  1. Ch9

  2. Skip first 2 sts, hdc7

  3. Ch2, turn work, hdc7

  4. Repeat row 3

Cut yarn short. Tie off yarn.

Book pages: (in ILoveThisYarn White)

  1. Ch5

  2. Skip first 2 sts, hdc3

  3. Ch2, turn work, hdc3

  4. Repeat row 3

To make the book spine, sandwich the page between the cover and slst down the middle, making sure to pull the yarn through the page to attach it to the cover.

Top hat: (in ILoveThisYarn Black)

  • R1: sc6 in MR (6 sts)

  • R2: (sc, inc) x3, slst in first st of the round (9 sts)

  • R3-6: ch1, sc9, slst into first st (9 sts)

  • R7 (FLO): ch2. (Dc1, inc) x4, inc. Slst into first st (14 sts)

Cut yarn long for sewing onto the head.

Bowtie: (in ILoveThisYarn Red)

  1. Ch11

  2. Skip the first 2 chs, dc2, hdc2, sc, hdc2, dc2

  3. Ch2, turn work, dc2, hdc2, sc, hdc2, dc2

Cut yarn, tie the ends, and weave them into the sts. Cut another piece of yarn and tie it around the center of the bowtie to cinch it up.

Assembly

  • Sew the nose to the face, in between the eyes.


  • Sew the ears on the head.


  • Sew the arms on the sides of the body.


  • Sew the legs on the lower part of the body.


  • Tie the tail to the lower back of the body.


  • Sew the monocle’s chain to the side of the head. Sew the frame on, attaching one side to the right of the eye on the face and the other side onto the nose. Do not sew around the entire monocle or it will stick to the face and look strange.


  • Sew the top hat onto the top of the head, in between the ears.


  • Using the yarn tied onto the bowtie to cinch it up, attach the bowtie to the neck. Lay the book in the bear’s lap.
